The Songwriters’ monthly meetings in Waterbury are an informal time for songwriters of all abilities to collaborate in the sharing of their songwriting skills and ideas.  Prior experience is not a requirement.  Basic elements of songwriting will be covered, along with fun, practical group exercises that will benefit everyone’s skillset.  Topics may include but are not limited to idea development, song structure, lyrical prosody, memorable melodies, basics of co-writing, how to give feedback and more. If you have a song to share, please bring a recording or feel free to bring your instrument or voice or both!  A keyboard and microphone will be available if needed.

Patrick and Alison McHugh, workshop leaders, are lifelong musicians from central Vermont, having played music together since the 7th grade. They are currently facilitating a bi-monthly Songwriting Collaborative that meets in downtown Burlington.  Pat is a gifted drummer, guitarist, producer, and sound technician.  You will find him building houses and helping to equip bands for various events, as well as outfitting churches and venues with the right gear for the space.  Alison has been singing, playing the piano and writing songs for 25 years and works in alumni relations for a wilderness program. In 2014, the McHughs worked with the late Cindy Wilt-Colville, a songwriter development coach from Nashville, TN and have since been passionate about working to inspire songwriters in Vermont and making a safe place for creative people to share their work and hone their skills.
